How this figure is read
In Ifá, a figure is built from two columns of four marks, read from the right column to the left. Here the right column is Òtúrá Méjì (single · double · single · single) and the left column is Òfún Méjì (double · single · double · single). Many diviners start with the right column and then bring in the left, though schools of Ifá differ in how they weigh the two. Reading Òtúrá-Òfún means holding both lessons together and asking how they bear on the question at hand.
From Òtúrá Méjì
Òtúrá teaches that confusion and difficulty are often temporary, giving way to clarity for those who remain patient and truthful. It marks turning points and the wisdom gained through transformation.
Kùràkùrà ọjọ́ ni ìmọ́lẹ̀ ọjọ́ tuntun. "The dimness before dawn gives way to the light of a new day."
From Òfún Méjì
Òfún, closely tied to Ọbàtálá, teaches purity of character, patience, and the moral discipline required to age gracefully and finish life's journey with integrity intact.
Funfun ni àrà; kò gba ìdọ̀tí láti dúró funfun. "White is sacred; it takes discipline to remain unstained."
Putting the two together
In practice, the figure encourages a person not to make final decisions in the middle of confusion. Wait for understanding, speak calmly, and expect that the picture will clear for those who stay honest and patient. At the same time, in daily terms, this figure advises keeping one's word, being slow to anger, and finishing what one starts. It is also a reminder that integrity is maintained through small choices made consistently.
